Love In Action: Smiley’s Guide To Being A Good Neighbor
Welcome to our Nia Bailey’s Books, where we celebrate the importance of loving our neighbors. Today, we want to share with you the inspiration behind our interactive children's book, "Love Thy Neighbor." This book not only teaches children about the value of loving their neighbors but also provides them with engaging activities to reinforce these important lessons. Join us as we honor the memory of Loraine Byrd Fields-Latham, fondly known as Smiley, who inspired this project.
At the core of our belief in loving our neighbors lies a powerful message from Matthew 22:37-39. God's commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves serves as the foundation for our actions. It is through this biblical teaching that we aim to instill in children the values of kindness, compassion, and empathy.
"Love Thy Neighbor" is an interactive children's book that follows the heartwarming journey of Smiley and her family as they exemplify what it means to love thy neighbor. Through colorful illustrations and captivating storytelling, children are encouraged to embrace the joy of helping others and building strong, caring communities.

Through this book, we aim to carry forward her message of kindness, compassion, and love for generations to come.
The Illustrator
Jodi Faber
Jodi Faber is a Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist with a background in illustration and sculpture. Jodi graduated from Tyler School of Art in 2017, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies. Her work has been exhibited locally and abroad in Philadelphia, St. Michaels, Tenerife, and Rome. Her work is inspired by toys, comics, interpersonal relationships, feminine experiences, the surreal, nature, and community. She strives to create a sense of childlike exploration with her work through whimsical lines and bright, appealing colors.
Jodi’s Artist Statement
As children, we make sense of our world through sensory exploration; eventually, familiarity with our surroundings turns our raptured attention into indifference. My art strives to rekindle the excitement of discovery through interaction and play. I take inspiration from toy design and try to find ways to create an emphatic desire to reach out and touch with my sculptures. In my illustrations, I love playing with dimensions and weaving different forms in and out of each other. I like the idea of my illustrations functioning as almost a visual maze for the viewer to follow and make sense of the entangled shapes. Ultimately, my goal for my art is to create pieces that feel approachable and appealing to those both familiar and unfamiliar with art culture and promote creative exploration. I hope that with my work, people can find a moment away from the anxiety of daily thoughts and responsibilities and just enjoy the experience of interacting with what is in front of them.

DayDream Kreative Studios is a space to facilitate all types of creative endeavors and events. Available for use by booking online or via phone-call, the studio can be rented for private events, working space, vending, and shows. The founder, Nahjee, aims for this space to be a “blank canvas” that can be arranged to support many different businesses, professionals, or even just hobbies. From design, photography, editing, yoga, recording, and live music, DayDream Kreative is capable of making the space work for you. The goal is to form a community around creativity and local people’s passions. Nahjee is from South Ardmore and knew DayDream would be a valuable asset to Ardmore. Every Sunday a vendor market is held in the space featuring local artisans and creators. Stay up to date on all other events, such as book signings and live shows, on DayDream Kreative’s social media.
